This is a disorder of the sebaceous gland, these present as a milky yellow donut shaped lesion. They can be single or multiple. This is a common, non-contagious benign condition. Usually found in middle age to older patients.
Sebaceous Hyperplasia Cause:
Sebaceous Hyperplasia is a disorder of the sebaceous gland in which they become enlarged; they may present themselves as milky yellow doughnut shaped lesion.
Aesthetic Treatment:
There are two techniques used to treat sebaceous hyperplasia:
- A probe is used to scrape away excess skin leaving the lesion to with a slight graze appearance.
- A probe is inserted into the sebaceous hyperplasia in vertical fashion drying up the contents.
Slight tingling sensation may be experienced during either procedure.
Aesthetic Treatment Aftercare:
Following your treatment you may experience:
- A slight reddening and or swelling of the skin in the area.
- Warmth in the area that has been treated.
- The appearance of the sebaceous hyperplasia may change, it may whiten or flatten before it reduces.
- The skin may itch as the healing process takes place.
- A temporary scab or crust will form. On completion of the healing process this will slough off naturally.
Following aesthetic treatment ensure you follow the aftercare advice to avoid unwanted reactions or infections:
Do not touch the treated area and do not under any circumstances remove any scabs that may appear.
Apply aftercare lotion regularly, with clean fresh cotton wool, until the area has completely healed.
Aftercare products recommended use is Witch Hazel Gel for 24-48 hours, followed by 28 days of Aloe Vera Gel. Apply twice a day or as often as required under usual day/night cream. Apres Clear can be substituted for the Witch Hazel and offers additional anti-bacterial properties.
The treatment can be washed or cleaned, using a gentle soap free/perfume free cleanser. Gently pat the area dry with disposable towels or tissue if possible.
Avoid U.V. light as much as possible and cover up with hats or a parasol.
Avoid swimming, saunas, steam rooms, facial steaming, facial scrubs, waxing and other beauty
treatments, until the area has completely healed.
Avoid using any possible skin sensitisers or irritants such as perfume, fake tan products or perfumed body lotions.
