Skin tags are very common and most frequently found on the neck and face. They often appear with a neck, like a mushroom and vary in size from a tiny speck, smaller than a grain of uncooked rice to the size of a large pea or even larger. They are often found in areas of friction such as the underarm, groin, under the breasts or around the neck where necklaces may irritate.
Skin Tag Cause:
Skin tags are viral in nature and whilst not highly infectious they do seem to spread on certain individuals. Skin tags are commonly found in areas of friction, for example around the neck, under the arms, on the chest, back, under the breast or in the groin area.
Aesthetic Treatment:
The tip of a small probe is used to treat the tag; a small burst of energy is expelled, and a slight stinging sensation is experienced.
Aesthetic Treatment Aftercare:
Following your treatment you may experience:
- A slight reddening/swelling of the skin in the area.
- Warmth in the area that has been treated.
- Pin dot crusting in the area that has been treated.
- The area treated may feel itchy as it heals.
Following aesthetic treatment ensure you follow the aftercare advice to avoid unwanted reactions or infections:
- Do not touch the treated area and do not under any circumstances remove any scabs that may appear.
- Apply aftercare lotion regularly, with clean fresh cotton wool, until the area has completely healed.
- Aftercare products recommended use is Witch Hazel Gel for 24-48 hours, followed by 28 days of Aloe Vera Gel. Apply twice a day or as often as required under usual day/night cream. Apres Clear can be substituted for the Witch Hazel and offers additional anti-bacterial properties.
- Please avoid UV exposure during the healing process until the skin has returned to its normal healthy state. The area treated and any areas showing a predisposition to skin tags should be protected by a sunscreen at all times, particularly in the summer months.
- Avoid swimming, saunas, steam rooms, facial steaming, facial scrubs, waxing and other beauty treatments, until the area has completely healed.
- Avoid using any possible skin sensitisers or irritants such as perfume, fake tan products or perfumed body lotions.
- Should you have any concerns regarding your treatment please contact the clinic.
