This is a deposit of fatty materials commonly found on the eyelids. The exact cause is unknown.
Xanthelasma Cause:
The exact cause of Xanthelasma is unknot. It is typically associated with an elevated cholesterol level. Xanthelasma may appear anywhere on the body but is most commonly seen on the eyelids. Treatment with electrolysis can visibly reduce the raised appearance although the colour remains unaffected.
Aesthetic Treatment:
A small probe will touch the surface of the skin; energy is released, and a slight stinging sensation will be experienced. Xanthelasma may require more than one treatment and ongoing treatment is required.
Aesthetic Treatment Aftercare:
Following your treatment you may experience:
- A slight reddening/swelling of the skin in the area.
- Warmth in the area that has been treated.
- The area treated will look worse before it gets better and a scab will form.
- The area treated may feel itchy as it heals.
Following aesthetic treatment ensure you follow the aftercare advice to avoid unwanted reactions or infections:
Do not touch the treated area and do not under any circumstances remove the scabs that will appear. If they are picked off, this will result in scarring.
Apply aftercare lotion regularly, with clean fresh cotton wool, until the area has completely healed. Take great care to avoid any product entering the eye itself. Follow manufacturer’s instructions and rinse well with water should this happen.
Aftercare products recommended use is Witch Hazel Gel for 24-48 hours, followed by 28 days of Aloe Vera Gel. Apply twice a day or as often as required.
The treatment can be washed or cleaned, using a gentle soap free/perfume free cleanser. Gently pat the area dry to avoid dislodging any scabbing.
No swimming, saunas, steam rooms, facial steaming, facial scrubs, waxing and other beauty treatments, until the area has completely healed.
Avoid U.V. exposure until the area has completely healed.
Avoid using any possible skin sensitisers or irritants such as perfume, fake tan products or perfumed body lotions.
Should you have any concerns regarding your treatment please contact the clinic.
